October 14,  the LSCU & Affiliates (LSCU) participated in the Tallahassee Walk to End Alzheimer’s, chaired by LSCU’s Political Affairs Coordinator Jordan Burroughs.

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. The Tallahassee Walk to End Alzheimer’s too place at Cascades Park, in the heart of Tallahassee’s downtown.

Jordan and the LSCU team got involved about four years ago volunteering for the Alzheimer’s Association to support an LSCU colleague, whose husband,
Bill was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Shortly after the diagnosis, Angie had to resign her position at the LSCU to care for her husband full time.

Jordan was inspired to continue the fight for a cure by volunteering her time with the Alzheimer’s Association when Angie and Bill had to focus on their personal daily battle with the disease. This year was Jordan’s first year serving as chair of the Tallahassee fundraiser. Unfortunately, Bill lost his battle with Alzheimer’s two weeks prior to the event.

To date, the Tallahassee Walk has raised nearly $64,000. Fundraising for the cause will continue through December. Jordan’s team, with the help of LSCU, colleagues, Tallahassee area credit unions, and friends surpassed its goal of $5,000 by raising more than $6,400, putting them in second place for top fundraising teams.  View pictures and read more on the LSCU Facebook page.
