The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU & Affiliates) is excited to have Georgia State Senator Sonya Halpern (D-Atlanta) on Common Cents this month. Hear about the importance of credit unions in Georgia, legislation currently being considered and how it may affect financial institutions, and much more during this month’s podcast.
Senator Halpern assumed office on January 11, 2021. She won in a special primary runoff election on December 1, 2020, with more than 80% of the votes.
Senator Halpern was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an MBA from the University of Hartford. She has an extensive career, including working for ESPN, Public Broadcasting Atlanta, and various non-profit organizations.

- Senate Health and Human Services Committee
- State Institutions and Property Committee
