On Oct. 23, the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions announced that it has changed its name to Inclusiv. The Inclusiv name grows out of the organization’s commitment to financial inclusion and its dedication to ensuring access to responsible financial products and services delivered at an affordable cost in a fair and transparent manner. The announcement was made at the organization’s Annual Conference in Clearwater, FL.

“For decades, the Federation and community development credit unions have been building trust and delivering relevant products to underserved people with dignity and respect. Inclusiv will build on the 44 year legacy of the Federation to grow the visibility and impact of mission-driven credit unions,” said Cathie Mahon, Inclusiv President and CEO. “We believe that financial inclusion and empowerment is a fundamental right. Today we recognize the purpose and impact of our organization and our member community development credit unions by sharing with you a name that keeps our shared mission front and center.”

The mission of Inclusiv remains unchanged: to help low- and moderate-income people and communities achieve financial independence through credit unions. Inclusiv closes the gaps and removes barriers to financial opportunities for distressed and underserved communities by providing capital, making connections, building capacity, developing innovative products and services, and advocating for community development credit unions. The organization has renamed its programs and initiatives to reflect Inclusiv’s mission of promoting inclusive financial solutions.

  • The Community Development Investment Program, offering secondary capital to community development credit unions in the form of subordinated, long-term loans that can be leverage by growing credit unions, is now Inclusiv/Capital.
  • The CDCU Mortgage Center, offering members a secondary market for mortgage loans, is now Inclusiv/Mortgage.
  • CU Breakthrough Consulting and Technical Assistance, which works with members to strengthen their capacity, obtain certifications and grants, and identify and implement sustainable strategies for growth, is now Inclusiv/Network.
  • CU Impact, a platform for robust back-office accounting, processing and compliance support that also measures and reports on community impact, is now Inclusiv/Technology.
  • Programs for reaching communities underserved by the financial mainstream, including Juntos Avanzamos, a designation for credit unions empowering Hispanic consumers, the African-American Credit Union Initiative, and Pathways to Financial Empowerment, a financial coaching and counseling platform created in partnership with Neighborhood Trust Financial Partners, are now part of Inclusiv/Communities.
