As Louisiana struggles to recover from massive flooding that hit Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas, the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) activated CUAid, the online disaster relief system, one week ago. Since then, it has collected more than $53,000 in donations to help CU employees. The flooding continues, and more help is needed. To show our support, the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation will donate $2,500 to CUAid from its Disaster Relief Fund.
Donations are posted through CUAid.coop, and the NCUF is coordinating with the Louisiana Credit Union Foundation in the disaster area to distribute money efficiently to affected credit union employees. Through CUAid, 100 percent of donations go to credit union disaster relief. In the event that all donations are not used for Louisiana flooding relief, the National Credit Union Foundation will transfer any unused funds to its “General Disaster Relief fund” for future disaster relief efforts.
The credit union industry’s spirit of “People Helping People” has been evident time and again throughout the years when people suffer disasters. In 2011, when credit unions in Alabama suffered devastation from tornadoes, donations from all over the country poured in and helped make a real difference in the community. In June, the LSCU, LEVERAGE, and SECUF stepped up to show Alabama and Florida credit unions support for victims of the Orlando night club shooting. Show your support, by donating at CUAid.
