Alabama, Florida CUs can take part in Georgia CU tradition through Ed Collins Memorial Golf Tournament

Alabama and Florida credit unions will soon have the opportunity to participate in a golf tournament already beloved by credit unions in Georgia — the 15th Annual Ed Collins Memorial Golf Tournament.

Registration is now open for the tournament, which will be held April 23 at Harbor Club on Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga. Players should plan to arrive by 11 a.m. to register. A shot-gun start will signify tee off at 1 p.m.

The Ed Collins Memorial Golf Tournament is held in memory of Ed Collins, a force in the Georgia and national credit union movements, who died April 12, 2009. Ed worked with the NCUA for 20 years before joining Lockheed Georgia Employees’ Federal Credit Union (now LGE Community Credit Union) as vice president and chief financial officer in 1984. He was promoted to president and CEO in 1995 and remained in that position until his retirement in 2008.

During his lifetime, Ed was also one of the founders of Cooperative Services, Inc., a successful state-wide credit union service organization (CUSO). He served as chairman of SWIRL, LLC and as a Georgia Credit Union League Board Member. In 2006, the Georgia Credit Union Affiliates recognized Ed’s dedication to and success in the industry by presenting him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The cost to register a player in the upcoming tournament in Ed’s honor is $210 and all proceeds will benefit the efforts of the Southeastern Credit Foundation. Credit unions can also choose to sponsor the event at different levels. The Foundation will host a silent auction during the tournament and is asking credit unions to donate items valued at a minimum of $50.

“We’re delighted that our Georgia peers could introduce the rest of LSCU & Affiliates into this fun and worthwhile tradition,” said Bobbi Grady, development coordinator for the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation. “We’re excited for a day of golf, fundraising and comradeship with our peers from Georgia, Alabama and Florida.”
