Biz Kid$ has been nominated for a National Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Children’s Program for Season 6 by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The awards presentation will take place on April 29 in Pasadena, Calif.
The Daytime Emmy Awards recognize excellence in American daytime television programming. Emmys are considered the television equivalent to the Academy Awards (for film), Grammy Awards (for music) and Tony Awards (for stage).
“This is such an honor for Biz Kid$ to once again be recognized and nominated for another Emmy Award,” said Danielle Brown, National Program Director for the Foundation. “This nomination is a testament to the quality and content of the show in its mission to provide youth financial education in a way that resonates with kids, and it would not have been possible without credit unions supporting and believing in Biz Kid$.”
Through the power of collaboration, a coalition of over 300 credit unions and affiliates from across the country have helped exclusively fund Biz Kid$ donating over $15 million. In fact, each of the 71 Biz Kid$ episodes begins and ends with a 15-second video reminding viewers that: “Production funding for Biz Kid$ is provided by America’s Credit Unions, where people are worth more than money.”
Biz Kid$ is designed to engage young people and help them develop life skills in the areas of financial literacy and entrepreneurship. The initiative includes an Emmy award winning television series, free classroom curriculum, outreach activities, and a website targeting kids 9-16 years old. Biz Kid$ uses the power of television to teach students how to use credit wisely and reinforces the importance of budgeting, saving, and giving back to the community.
Biz Kid$ has continually garnered attention in and outside of the credit union industry. In addition to winning two Emmy Awards, Biz Kid$ has won the Environmental Media Award for Outstanding Children’s Television Series; a Silver Telly Award for Outstanding Children’s Financial Literacy Programming, and the Parent’s Choice Gold Award. In 2010, it also earned the credit union industry’s most prestigious honor, the Herb Wegner Award for Outstanding Program.
