Five Star partner with Wallace Community College to offer one-year scholarship
Wallace Community College, in a partnership with Five Star Credit Union, has awarded a full one-year scholarship to Victoria Duhaime. The scholarship covers her tuition for the 2018-2019 school year. She has maintained 4.0 grade point average while being named to the President’s List twice, as well as being a member of the Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Kappa Delta honor societies. Duhaime volunteers with the Tumbleweed Ranch in a Life Savers program helping children with special needs.
Duhaime, who is studying art and plans to pursue a career in the art and film industry, was chosen from 331 scholarship applications. This is the second year for the Five Star Student Scholarship. Five Star also sponsors financial education in 20 schools in its footprint stretching from Dothan, AL, to Brunswick, GA.
Palm Beach Chapter holds meet and greet with state lawmakers
The LSCU’s Palm Beach Chapter hosted state lawmakers at a legislative meet and greet on Sept. 24. Credit union advocates had the opportunity to discuss priority issues while also building relationships with representatives and senators from the Palm Beach legislative delegation.
This event was an excellent way to share the credit union story and emphasize the benefits credit unions provide to their local communities.
Naheola CU joins Career Fair at the University of West Alabama
Naheola Credit Union participated in a Career Fair at the University of West Alabama recently. Students learned more about the Credit Union industry and Naheola Credit Union through an interactive quiz. Students that participated in the quiz were entered in for a chance to a win a $50 gift card.
IBMSECU plans Shred Days for South Florida branches
The $1.10 billion IBM Southeast Employees’ Credit Union announces Shred Days at four of their South Florida branches during the month of October. The 2017 Identity Fraud Study, released by Javelin Strategy & Research, found that $16 billion was stolen from 15.4 million U.S. consumers in 2016, compared with $15.3 billion and 13.1 million victims a year earlier. In the past six years identity thieves have stolen more than $107 billion.
