Achieva Credit Union awards $15,000 in scholarships to 12 students

scholarship winners with bannerAchieva Credit Union awarded $15,000 in scholarships to 12 college-bound graduates, including 10 scholarships to local students for $1,000 each. In addition, two graduating high-school students, who plan to major in education, were each awarded a $2,500 Hugh “Max” Kriever Memorial Scholarship in memory of the former Chairman of the Board for Achieva.

Representatives of Achieva’s board of directors and leadership team spoke to the graduates at a special evening reception hosted at Achieva’s corporate office in Dunedin, FL, in honor of all scholarship recipients. Speakers encouraged recipients to maintain a focus on service and thrift while pursuing their goals.

Applicants were evaluated on a range of factors, including academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, community involvement and future goals. Their essay answers regarding responsible money management and financial literacy in relation to community impact were also taken into consideration.

Hugh “Max” Kriever Memorial Scholarship winners are Sabrina Weaver, University of South Florida, Sarasota, Manatee; and Wade Jellings, Anclote High School.

Achieva Credit Union scholarship recipients are Benjamin Lameyer , Northside Christian High School; Haley DeYulus, Estero High School; Emma Touchton, Tarpon Springs High School; Joshua Nikolas Bronto, Largo High School; Justine Brennan, University of South Florida; Laura Young, Northeast High School; Lauren Lang, Palm Harbor University High School; Marielle Briones, University of South Florida; Mason Kennedy, Sarasota High School; and Ryan Goodrich, Osceola Fundamental High School.

 

eCO CU sponsor Coupons for Classroom to benefit education foundation

teacher receiving checkeCO Credit Union joined the community spirit to sponsor Coupons from Classrooms through the Shelby County Schools Education Foundation in Alabama this year. eCO’s marketing director had the opportunity to join Kendall Williams, director of the foundation, to make surprise grant presentations to educators in schools throughout Shelby County.

The cost of the brochure is $20, and the foundation earns $10 for every brochure sold. The portion the foundation receives goes directly to award teacher grants.

 

LSCU facilitates round table meeting with congressional candidate

meeting with congressional staffThe LSCU facilitated a round table meeting for credit union advocates to meet with congressional candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in Miami. It was important for Power Financial CU, South Florida Educational FCU, Hialeah Municipal Employees FCU, and Baptist Health South FCU to share the credit union difference and discuss important issues, such as data security, regulatory relief, and the tax-exempt status.
