Richard Gose, chief political officer for CUNA sent a letter to credit unions Friday to highlight a recent Petition for Declaratory Ruling that CUNA filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) seeking relief from the onerous compliance complexities associated with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

“Credit unions have been expressing serious concerns to us over the past few years about ambiguities in how to comply with this severely outdated statute and the FCC’s interpretations of it,” said Gose. “This has resulted in credit unions being forced to curtail consumer friendly communications and leaves credit unions vulnerable to liability traps, which can put the resources of their membership in jeopardy.”

Gose requests support during the Petition process with the FCC. The CUNA Petition was filed on Sept. 29, and  the FCC put it out for public comment just one week later.

“We hope you will consider filing a comment with any concerns you may have with how the TCPA is impacting credit unions and their ability to communicate with their member-owners.”

Gose asks for comments to the FCC by Nov. 6, with information available here. Talking points are provided in the action alert to allow individuals to send a personal comment to the FCC. Please contact Leah Dempsey or Kristen Prather with questions.
