With the Alabama Speaker of the House position vacated by the conviction of Mike Hubbard, Gov. Robert Bentley has set dates for a special election to fill the seat. Since Hubbard’s conviction on June 10, Victor Gaston has been serving as acting house speaker.

The primary for the Lee County seat, if necessary, is scheduled for Sept. 13. The general election is scheduled for Nov. 29. If a primary runoff is necessary, it would be held on Nov. 29, which would push the general election to Feb. 7. The deadline for Republican and Democratic candidates to quality is July 14.

Third-party candidates and independent candidates seeking ballot access must file the appropriate notification, petitions, or supporting paperwork with the Secretary of State by Sept. 13.
