LSCU salutes the dedicated leadership of Tom Dorety, President/CEO of Suncoast Credit Union in Tampa, who today announced his retirement. Dorety’s decision to leave the helm of the largest Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) in the nation brings to a close an outstanding 40-year career in service to credit unions.

“Tom’s leadership on the local, state, and national levels has changed the credit union movement for the better,” said Patrick La Pine, President/CEO of LSCU. “He has never lost sight of the cooperative model or spirit, and the culture he fostered during his time at Suncoast strongly reflects this. I’ve really enjoyed working side-by-side with Tom, on behalf of LSCU, to strengthen the system overall.”

LSCU also announces that Dorety is the recipient of the 2016 LSCU Distinguished Service Award. His accomplishments reflect a positive impact beyond an individual credit union, one of the requisites for the award. As a recipient of the honor, Dorety will be inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders in Washington, D.C.

The award will be presented in June at the 2016 Southeast Credit Union Conference & Expo, including Suncoast’s longtime leader in an elite group of honorees who meet the award’s stringent criteria. Dorety’s retirement is effective at the end of 2016.
