Florida unemployment rate drops; Alabama rate holds steady

For the first time since January, the unemployment rate in Florida is not higher than the national average. The rate fell .2 percent to five percent. There are 486,000 jobless people in Florida. Alabama’s unemployment rate rose.1 percent to fall back to six percent. There are about 122,000 jobless people in Alabama.

When looking at the Florida numbers, year over year, there has been an increase of 239,000 jobs in the state. Monroe County has the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 3.3 percent, while Hendry County has the highest unemployment rate at 8.3 percent.

A closer look at Alabama’s numbers shows that Auburn-Opelika has the lowest unemployment rate at 4.7 percent while the Florence-Muscle Shoals, Mobile, and Anniston-Oxford-Jacksonville areas have the highest unemployment rate at  6.6 percent.
