Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley recently told The Montgomery Advertiser he would call a special session in late summer or fall to focus on the General Fund. An official announcement is pending, and the session is expected to address problems with funding for the Alabama Medicaid Agency.
According to the newspaper, the Legislature appropriated $700 million from the General Fund for Medicaid for the budget year that starts Oct. 1. The agency needs an additional $85 million to maintain services. Lawmakers passed the budget over the governor’s veto.
