Science is supposed to be fun, and the science of saving will be full of awesome fun for young savers during National Credit Union Youth Month, supported by Fiserv, in April. With the theme “The Science of Saving,” America’s youth are encouraged to picture themselves in the future to make saving easier.

Credit unions and their members are encouraged to use #CUYouthMonth on Twitter to highlight their efforts throughout the month.

“Credit unions will once again inspire America’s youth to reach financial freedom,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. “April is the month in which we can showcase our effort to our youngest members and help them begin a journey of lifelong financial education.”

The “Science of Saving” theme is featured throughout youth month’s free promotional materials and merchandise. New this year, credit unions can download a Science of Saving Snapchat filter to add to the celebration.

Credit unions can purchase a design bundle that includes more than 20 digital assets in their native design formats–including a video and infographic–that can be customized to fit each credit union’s brand standards.

All of the materials are accessible here.

CUNA will also sponsor the annual National Youth Saving Challenge during April. The challenge encourages young credit union members to put as much money into savings as possible. One credit union will be awarded a $1,000 grand prize, so it can award 10 of its youth members with a $100 prize.

The event, which aims to imbue positive savings behavior in school-age children, is open to all youth under the age of 18. CUNA has organized the challenge since 2004, and it has lasted the full month of April since 2009.

For credit unions, celebrating National Youth Credit Union Youth Month can be as simple as signing up for the Saving Challenge. Credit unions can register here. CUNA uses participation numbers in their lobbying efforts to demonstrate the credit union system’s dedication to encouraging good financial habits.
