Metsger was nominated to serve on the Board of the National Credit Union Administration on May 16, 2013 by then-President Barack Obama. The U.S. Senate confirmed Board Member Metsger on Aug. 1, 2013, and he took the oath of office on Aug. 23, 2013. He served as the ninth NCUA Board Chairman from May 1, 2016, through Jan. 22, 2017.
Metsger has extensive public policy and private-sector experience in the areas of financial services, consumer protection, taxation, transportation and strategic communications. He previously served as NCUA’s representative on the NeighborWorks America Board of Directors.
Prior to joining the NCUA Board, Metsger owned his own strategic communications consulting firm focused on financial services, capital construction, energy and transportation issues.
In addition to consulting and public service, Metsger has worked as a teacher and a radio and television journalist. From 1993 to 2001, he served on the board of directors of the Portland Teachers Credit Union.
