“People Helping People” is a driving force in the heart of LSCU’s Political Affairs Coordinator, Jordan Burroughs. This year, Jordan chaired Tallahassee’s 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s which was held mid-October after being rescheduled because of Hurricane Irma.
Jordan began volunteering four years ago for the Alzheimer’s Association to support an LSCU colleague Angie Meisenheimer, whose husband, Bill was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.
Jordan’s passion to continue the fight for a cure grew when Angie and Bill had to focus on their personal daily battle with the disease and Angie had to resign her position at the League to care for her husband full time. Unfortunately, Bill lost his battle with Alzheimer’s two weeks prior to the event.
To date, the Tallahassee Walk has raised nearly $65,000. Fundraising for the cause will continue through December. Jordan’s team, with the help of LSCU, colleagues, Tallahassee area credit unions, and friends surpassed its goal of $5,000 by raising more than $6,400, putting them in second place for top fundraising teams.
