This year’s SCUCE includes two appetizing guest events to appeal to the culinary enthusiasts. On Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, a BBQ rib competition will offer friendly rivalry and advice from an expert.

Guests will learn how to make award-winning spare ribs and baby back ribs with pitmaster Chris Brown. The class includes a one-hour demonstration on how to pick out good quality ribs, prepare, cook slow with wood smoke, and serve ribs at home.  Various types of smokers will be included in presentation, as well as how to turn present ribs in an official KCBS BBQ competition.

After class ,each team will be given two slabs of ribs to present as a BBQ competition.  Teams will be judged by Brown, a KCBS Certified BBQ Judge.

A second guest event Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon focuses on the Art of Sushi. Participants will learn how to make hand crafted sushi from a classically trained Japanese sushi chef. Guests will learn the techniques of proper rice cookery, selection and fabrication of sashimi quality seafood, sauces, garnish and the production of classic Maki rolls, Nigiri rolls and sashimi.
