The National Credit Union Foundation’s (NCUF) board of directors announced approval of new Biz Kid$ Financial Education Grants for 2016-2017, including grants to the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation (SECUF) and Tallahassee-Leon Federal Credit Union, both based in Tallahassee, FL.

The grants are distributed to encourage credit union organizations to use Biz Kid$ and its curriculum to enhance students’ financial knowledge and financial well-being. Biz Kid$ is the credit union-funded public television series that teaches children about money management and entrepreneurship.

Through its grant, the SECUF will introduce Alabama credit unions to the Biz Kid$ program with two interactive workshops where the credit unions are the students. The full-day workshops will provide credit unions with the tools, resources, and the creativity to take the program into their local schools and youth agencies — not only to give students financial education but to engage them in financial education. The workshop will showcase the videos and also will give the credit unions ways to enhance the program by adding activities and contests that relate to the videos and online material.

Tallahassee-Leon FCU received a grant allowing it to provide personal finance instruction using the Biz Kid$ curriculum to participants in the Tallahassee Future Leaders Academy, a summer employment program. The employment program provides youth ages 15-20 with the opportunity to gain professional work experience, as well as financial education.

In all, 14 grants were awarded throughout the U.S., totaling $75,200. A coalition of more than 300 credit unions and affiliates across the country have helped fund Biz Kid$.
