Congress failed to come to an agreement to fund the government by the Jan. 19 deadline. The House was originally scheduled to be out of session this week, but stayed through the weekend until the Senate agreed to move forward on a short term funding bill earlier today. The Senate is also expected to consider S. 139, legislation to reauthorize a certain provision of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

Today, the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on the following nominations: Ms. Jelena McWilliams of Ohio to be Chairperson and a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; Dr. Marvin Goodfriend of Pennsylvania to be a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; and Mr. Thomas E. Workman of New York to be a member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council.

On Thursday, the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on “CFIUS Reform: Administration Perspectives on the Essential Elements.”
