This week, both chambers of Congress will be in session. The House of Representatives will consider S. 2155, the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act.  In addition, the House will vote on H.R. 5515, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 and S. 204, the Trickett Wendler, Frank Mongiello, Jordan McLinn, and Matthew Bellina Right to Try Act of 2017.

The Senate will consider the nomination of Dana Baiocco to be a Commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.  The Senate will also consider “Veterans Choice.”

Several matters will be considered in committee this week. Today, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Intergovernmental Affairs and Subcommittee on Government Operations will hold a joint hearing, “Ten Years of TARP: Examining the Hardest Hit Fund;” the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee will hold a markup on S.2098, to modernize and strengthen the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to more effectively guard against the risk to the national security of the United States posed by certain types of foreign investment; the Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government will hold a hearing to review the Fiscal Year 2019 funding request and budget justification for the U.S. Department of the Treasury;  and the Subcommittees of the Senate Armed Services Committee will markup provisions within their jurisdiction to the National Defense Authorization Act.

Also today, the House Financial Services Committee will hold a markup of:

  • H.R. 4439, the “Modernizing Credit Opportunities Act”
  • H.R. 5735, the “Transitional Housing for Recovery in Viable Environments Demonstration Program Act”
  • H.R. 5749, the “Options Markets Stability Act”
  • H.R. 5793, the “Housing Choice Voucher Mobility Demonstration Act of 2018”
  • H.R. 5841, the “Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act of 2018”

On Wednesday, the Senate Armed Services Committee will hold a closed markup of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2019; the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will hold a hearing, “Ten Years of Conservatorship: The Status of the Housing Finance; System;” the House Committee on Ways and Means Subcommittee on Tax Policy will hold a hearing, “Tax Reform and Small Businesses: Growing Our Economy and Creating Jobs;” the House Financial Services Committee Capital Markets, Securities and Investment Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled, “Legislative Proposals to Help Fuel Capital and Growth on Main Street;” and the House Financial Services Committee Housing and Insurance Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled, “The Impact of Autonomous Vehicles on the Future of Insurance.”

On Thursday, the Senate Banking Committee will hold a hearing: “Cybersecurity: Risks to Financial Services Industry and Its Preparedness.”
