During a recent Young Professional Think Tank, it was discussed that the YP Groups would like to have a collective initiative each year, one that is the main priority for all YPGs during that year. The initiative will be in addition to each group’s individual activities. For 2018, the focus will be financial education. To assist with this initiative, the LSCU is planning upcoming events and invites YPs to participate.

According to Juli Lewis, director of the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation, “We also have some scholarships available to assist with making it possible for the YPs to attend that we will be announcing soon. As our goals are improved industry awareness, increased knowledge exchange, professional development, and strengthening the collaborative spirit of young credit union professionals, we would love to have credit unions from all Chapters represented at these events.”

Please consider sending some of your YPs to the following:

  • The State Advocacy Conferences feature time to interact with state lawmakers, updates on legislative and regulatory issues, and speakers. Financial education is always a hot topic. Join us in Tallahassee, FL, Jan. 30-31 and in Montgomery, AL, Feb. 6-7. YP registration is only $79 for each event and special housing accommodations may be available for considerably less than the hosting hotels. Click here for more details and to register. YPs requesting scholarships and those unable to attend the entire event as well as those requesting more affordable accommodations should contact SECUF Director Juli Lewis, as soon as possible.
  • The next YP Think Tank will be in Birmingham, AL during the month of March (March 10 or March 17 – TBD). Registration is FREE. More specifics to come soon. Please spread the word. All YPs and those professionals wanting to learn more about the YPGs are welcome to attend.
  • YPGs have been challenged to facilitate reality fairs and/or financial education workshops during the first quarter, leading up to Financial Literacy Month (April). Get with SECUF Director Juli Lewis, to help coordinate and to be sure that your credit union is represented.

As always, the first step is to be sure that YOUR Young Professionals (credit union employees age 40 & under) are registered as a YP. Registration can be found here. Thank you and we hope to see credit unions of all sizes represented and acting as an integral part of the YP movement! If you would like to help sponsor this movement, please contact Juli.Lewis@lscu.coop.
