IBMSECU wins Business of the Year – Financial Institution Category

IBM Southeast Employees’ Credit Union, IBMSECU was awarded Business of the Year – Financial Institutions category at the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce’s 34th Annual Business and Industry Awards. The event took place on Sept. 26 at the Treasure Coast Lexus. The ceremony recognizes economic and community leaders in the area. Awards were given in 16 categories and representatives from all St. Lucie County businesses were invited to join.

These awards have a rich history in St. Lucie County and past winners include some of the top employers, contributors and community partners currently conducting business in St. Lucie County. With a crowd of more than 370 community leaders, the chamber recognized businesses in 16 categories for their overall impact on the economic well-being and quality of life.

This year, nominees were submitted by the committee, as well as the general public. Judging criteria included community involvement, economic impact, chamber participation, and environmental responsibility. Nominees were then narrowed into subcategories, then finalists from whom an overall category winner was chosen.

 

Naheola Credit Union receives Community Service, Crystal awards
Naheola Credit Union was recently recognized with two awards. The Credit Union received the 2018 West Alabama Community Service Award by the University of West Alabama National Alumni Association.

Additionally, the Credit Union received a Crystal Performance Award for the second year in a row. This award recognizes credit unions for achieving a top ranking based on the Raddon Performance Index, a balanced scorecard measurement of growth, income, efficiency, and margin management. More than 500 credit unions were evaluated nationwide for the Crystal Performance Award. Naheola Credit Union was one of the 10 credit unions selected out of the 500 to receive this award.

 

SFEFCU presents awards to local students in ‘My Miami’ art contest
Dozens of students from Elementary and High Schools in Miami submitted their best artwork to compete in the My Miami Holiday Art Contest, sponsored by South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union (SFEFCU).

One Grand Prize winner, four finalists and five honorable mentions were recognized at a reception at the credit union’s Kendall office on Sept. 29. All winners were awarded educational scholarships and their art was printed on holiday cards.

Students were asked to create an art piece celebrating the culture, landscapes and people of Miami during the holiday season. All of the net profits from the sale of the holiday cards will benefit the Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs/PTSAs and art programs within Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Grand Prize winner was Serene Palms, by Samantha Gonzalez; 12th grade.
Finalists were: Melanie Moller, 11th grade; Leslie Margolles, 10th grade; Leonardo Jackson Jr., 12th grade; and Keneisha Naserudin, fifth grade. Honorable mentions were: Valeria Hidalgo, fifth grade; Abigail Torres, second grade; Kayla Jannie Montizaa, 12th grade; Sanaa Simmons, 11th grade; and Dayanna Padron, 12th grade.

Florida CU professionals among 45 nationwide CUDEs certified in September
Forty-five credit union professionals were certified as Credit Union Development Educators (CUDEs) after completing the National Credit Union Foundation’s Credit Union Development Education (DE) Training. The September DE Training was held at the Lowell Center in Madison, WI, and was attended by employees and volunteers from credit unions and system partners across the United States and the globe.

The most recent DE graduating class included credit union movement representatives from across the U.S, as well as a representative from Cameroon, Kenya and the Philippines. LSCU affiliates earning the designation include: Deanna Frame, Guardians Credit Union in Florida; Rini Fredette, PSCU in Florida; Dulcey Hordge, Suncoast Credit Union in Florida; and Teresa Loy, Central Credit Union of Florida in Florida.

DE Training is an experiential training program that provides lessons in credit union structure, purpose and how they differentiate from other financial institutions. During the National Credit Union Foundation’s week-long program, participants are involved in group exercises, field visits and interactive speaker sessions that provide insights into how credit unions can leverage their unique business model to help their members and communities overcome the financial and developmental issues they face.

The class was mentored by a group of six credit union professionals and CUDE alumni, including Jimese Harkley, CUES in Alabama.
