Lizeth GeorgeLast week, credit unions from across the state of Alabama rallied in Montgomery for LSCU’s annual Alabama Advocacy Conference. Credit unions heard from Governor Kay Ivey, Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth, Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter, the Alabama Credit Union Administration, and many more. Legislative priorities including ATV titling, financial literacy, interchange, and more were discussed. At the conclusion of the conference, financial literacy legislation passed out of the House Education Policy Committee, following the work of Alabama credit unions to advocate for this priority.
Tuesday night, credit unions honored Senator Chris Elliott (R-Josephine) as their 2022 State Lawmaker of the Year for his extraordinary dedication to supporting and passing credit union legislation.
“I am thrilled to be named the 2022 State Lawmaker of the Year in Alabama by LSCU,” stated Senator Elliott. “I have been a supporter of credit unions for years and often take the time to speak with Alabamians to discuss issues facing these financial institutions. In my elected Senate position, I am prepared to stand up for credit unions and ensure that proper legislation is executed.”
Sen. Elliott formerly served as the Chairman of the Baldwin County Commission and the Chairman of the Eastern Shore Metropolitan Planning Organization, as well as on various national, statewide, and countywide boards and committees. In these roles, Senator Elliott was able to make a tremendous impact for the constituents of Alabama.
